We strive to create products that are of a high quality and will last you many a yoga practice, wearing-in beautifully over time. We’re also committed to developing sustainable products, and with Hemp being one of the most sustainable raw materials on the planet we have done just that! Here’s a little bit about what makes the collection so unique.
Sustainable and Long-lasting
Hemp is one of the most versatile plants in the world, in addition to using very little water, nothing is wasted in the production. The seeds are used to make oil and food supplements, while the stalks are used for fibre. Hemp is also one of the most durable natural textile fibers available, which means that these props will last you years and years in your home and also work well in a studio welcoming students every day.
We could go on and on about the qualities of hemp, but here are 5 quick facts:
- Compared to regular cotton, hemp requires only 1/20th the amount of water to grow and process
- Growing hemp doesn’t deplete the soil of nutrients, in fact it can be grown in the same soil consecutively for over twenty years.
- Hemp is actually water-resistant and will not easily absorb things like sweat or little spills.
- It’s biodegradable – any hemp products will last you a long time, but when it’s reached the end, you can cut it up and compost it.
- Hemp is hypoallergenic which makes this collection a wonderful choice for studios, and despite its’ natural and earthy look the fabric is soft and gentle.

Yogamatters Hemp Eye Pillow
A must-have item from the Yogamatters Hemp Collection, our wonderful hemp eye pillow is filled with natural linseed and scented with lavender for ultimate relaxation. The gentle weight of the linseed helps the muscles around the eyes to soften and relax whilst the lavender scent aids sleep and deep rest. The bottom layer is made from organic cotton for soft and gentle contact on the skin.
Yogamatters Hemp Small Rectangular Buckwheat Bolster
Filled with organic buckwheat hulls, our Hemp Small Rectangular Bolsters offer width and a flat surface for supine postures. The flat surface supports the back and can also be used to raise the hips in sitting postures and placed length ways under the mid back to open up the chest. The buckwheat hulls mould to the contours of your body, encouraging complete release and relaxation into your yoga asana.
Yogamatters Hemp Sandbag
Sandbag is an excellent prop addition to your restorative yoga practice. With its weight and versatility, you’re able to activate a relaxation response in your body allowing you to sink deeper into a yoga pose and find a deep release. Yogamatters Hemp Buckwheat Zafu Meditation Cushion
The Yogamatters Hemp Buckwheat Zafu Meditation Cushion is a traditional meditation cushion that allows you to sit cross legged in comfort. The word ‘zafu’ is Japanese and made up of two characters or kanji: ‘za’ meaning ‘sitting’ and ‘fu’ referring to reedmace, the original stuffing used to fill them. Similar to the Hemp Buckwheat Bolster, the buckwheat filling can be removed or added to adjust the height. Additional features include a removable cover that is machine washable and comes with an easy to carry handle.
